10.00 – 10.30 Steve Johnson Why sitting still might be the answer that you’re looking for. Steve Johnson, mindfulness teacher and mountaineer will talk about the research project that he helped to run at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary into mindfulness for cancer patients.  Reflecting on insights gained and lessons learned, he will speak about the value of mindfulness in life and therapy.  After his talk Steve will be leading mindfulness taster sessions
10.40 – 11.10 Sherry Kothari The upside down graph. Of course there’s more young people than old, aren’t there?  Not so.  Statistics show that we not only have people living longer but there are more us living longer.  What’s the challenge for families and communities, what kind of healthcare will we need to provide to meet this challenge?  How will Lancaster University’s Health Innovation Campus help us focus on these questions? 11.20 – 11.50 Paul Smith Focus on the finishing line. Can you be a top athlete and diabetic? Diabetes can often be seen as a debilitating illness and is synonymous in people’s minds with sugar and diet and weight…  But is it as simple as all that? Dr Paul Smith, Consultant Physician at Morecambe Bay Trust Diabetes Centre has a passionate belief that diabetes should not be a barrier to achievement.   Want to be inspired?
12.00 – 12.30 Dame Sue Black What’s in a name? You know the moment.  There’s a news item, a body has been found, and the first thing that pops into your head is: who is that? I wonder that they were called?  These are the kind of questions that Prof Dame Sue Black has been asking all her working life.  Listen to Sue talk about her experiences as a forensic anthropologist and anatomist and what she thinks is in a name.
